President's Message
Presidents Corner
I'd like to express my appreciation to all members who contributed artwork to the SC Veterans Assisted Living Home in Walterboro. We're collecting over 60 pieces from our artists. The veterans and I thank you. This is one of the most rewarding and heartwarming projects we've ever undertaken.
We're down over 20% on membership renewal. Please, if you haven't renewed, do so today.

GALLERY CHAIR'S MESSAGE
Dear Members,
I am very excited to take over the position of Gallery Chairman once again. It is my hope that we can attract more visitors to our Gallery by trying a few small changes.

In January we held two artist “roundtable” meetings; a few of the issues discussed were making better use of our two kiosks. If there is any artist who would like to be responsible for decorating our Steinmart Kiosk for one month, please let me know.

We will install energy-efficient light bulbs in the Featured Artist room, which will reduce the temperature and our electric bills.

Through the Garden Gate - Watercolors by Betty B. Luntey
In February the Art League Gallery features an exhibit of watercolors by Betty Brodie Luntey, entitled “Through the Garden Gate.” The show opens with a reception on Tuesday, February 10, 5-7 pm at the Gallery in Pineland Station and runs through March 7. The Public is welcome, come and meet the artist!
Betty is sure that in another life she was a sun worshipper. She paints outdoors whenever possible and is fascinated by the effect of the sun on color and shadow patterns. Betty finds that watercolor is the ideal medium to achieve the clean, clear look she prefers.

Special Events
Fabulous Fakes on Sat. Feb 28, 10am - 3pm in Atrium
For the first time our FABULOUS FAKES is taking place in February. We are very excited about the preview of paintings submitted. Here's a small selection to wet your palate.
Will the flamboyant “Madame X Revealing Her Source” (after J.S. Sargent by Anita Stephens) steal the show? Not without encountering stiff competition from “Berthe Morisot with a Bouquet” (after Manet by Joyce Nagel) and “The Girl with the Pearl Earring” (after Vermeer by Virginia MacKenzie).

Introduction of New Board Members
ROSEMARY KIMBALL has been a member of the Art League of Hilton Head for 14 years. She has served on the Board and worked on many fundraisers over the years. She is excited to be Gallery Chairman once again.

CAROLYN MALES - As a writer and photographer, I've always been fascinated by beautiful images and design. So when I walked into the Art League Academy three years ago, I was dazzled by all those talented people transforming blank canvases into paintings, collages and sketches. I should have been intimidated but I found that even beginners like me were welcome.
That's why I'm pleased to be an at-large member on the Art League Board. Not only do I look forward to putting my writing and editing skills to work, but I'm delighted to have the opportunity to brainstorm creative ways to enhance this great cultural resource.
By the way, when I'm not behind a camera or in front of the computer working on a book or photograph, I like to ham it up with The Outer Planet Players, a local drama group.
