ART BEYOND TRADITION Announces 2008 Show
“On the Edge” is the title of the upcoming show of abstract art presented by the Art Beyond Tradition group of artists. The opening will be on September 25, 5:30-7:30 p.m. and the show will continue through October 11 in the Walter Greer Gallery of the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina.

After the very successful 2006 exhibition at the Arts Center, this year's show promises to surpass it with new creativity and boldness of design, and color… it is art on the edge. Expect a variety of exceptional paintings, unique ideas, metal sculpture and unusual artistic presentations.

The 13 exceptional artists include: Deanna Bowdish, Cindy Chiappetta, Art Cornell, Marilyn Dizikes, Jo Dye, Anne Hakala, Brucie Holler, Vickie Jourdan, Stephen Kishel, Mary Jane Martin, Arla Crumlick Wible, Caroll Williams, and Irene K. Williamson.

MEMBER PROFILE - Beyond Art:
One of our Art League member artists, DON SNOW, published two books in March with Pearson Longman of New York. National Security for a New Era: Globalization and Geopolitics after Iraq, is in its third edition and is used nationally in courses on American national security policy. What after Iraq? is a "crossover" book intended for the general public, but also as a supplementary text in a variety of political science courses. Unlike other books in the field, it goes beyond their coverage by discussing not only how and why the United States became involved and has stayed in Iraq, but also assesses the likely consequences of leaving Iraq on Iraq and the United States. The book is available at Barnes&Noble or on Amazon.com. It is accompanied by a blog www.whatafteriraq.com, which provides bi-weekly updates on the war and related issues.
Don Snow is professor emeritus of political science at the University of Alabama, where he served from 1969 to 2006. He has also served as visiting professor at the U.S. Army, Naval, and Air War Colleges, and is the author of 40 books on international relations and foreign and national security topics. He is currently working on two additional books on international relations topics. He has been a member of the Hilton Head Art League since 2005. He and his wife Donna live with their two dogs in Hilton Head Plantation.
