Art “ON THE EDGE” at the Arts Center

Beginning on September 25, the ART Beyond TRADITION group of artists is presenting its show of abstract art called, “On the Edge,” at the Walter Greer Gallery in the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina in Shelter Cove. Thirteen artists collaborated to produce this exhibition of artwork in a variety of media, including metal sculpture, oils, acrylics, watercolors, collages and assemblages. There will be an opening RECEPTION at the Arts Center Thursday, Sept 25, from 5:30- 7:30 p.m. to which the public is invited. The exhibit runs through October 12.

Since its last show two years ago, the Art Beyond Tradition group has been perfecting its abstract work and pushing its skills to create the most unique and expressive selection of artwork to be presented in the Lowcountry. It is a bold show pulsing with color, and filled with concepts that are fresh and different. The artists presenting “On the Edge” include: Deanna Bowdish, Cindy Chiappetta, Art Cornell, Marilyn Dizikes, Jo Dye, Anne Hakala, Brucie Holler, Vickie Jourdan, Stephen Kishel, Mary Jane Martin, Arla Crumlick Wible, Caroll Williams and Irene K. Williamson. The show was designed and installed by Martha Ahrens Schymik.

STUDIO SURVERY: Donna Ireton and a friend are investigating the feasibility of establishing a studio facility in the Hilton Head/Bluffton area. Their concept would include space for 20 or more artists, a retail art supply store, a framing shop, and a kiln. Gallery space would also be included. Before we proceed with finding a suitable location, however, we'd like to survey local artists to determine, if there was a need for such a facility. Below is a copy of the survey document.

STUDIO SURVEY
We are researching the feasibility of providing studio space to local artists. Our initial concept is to include in the facility: studio spaces of varying size, reception/sales area, classroom, kitchen, demonstration room, meeting space, and retail operations such as a kiln, framing shop, and retail art supplies. Rent would be charged on a square foot basis, and each studio would have its own separately metered or apportioned utilities (water and electric).

We intend to complete our research by the end of this year, and if such an endeavor is feasible, open for business by early spring.

In order to determine whether there is a local demand for studio space, we ask that you complete and return this survey to us by September 30th. Please return the survey to us either by email (to ibulldozer@yahoo.com) or by mail to Donna Ireton, 11 Wedgefield Drive, Hilton Head, SC 29926.

Thank you for helping us with our research.
